Caring for your proof underwear

How do I wash and care for my leakproof undies?

Care Instructions

Proof undies have strong protection, but should be washed gently. Machine wash in cold water on a delicate cycle, using gentle detergents. To help sanitize, use a few drops of tea tree oil or vinegar in the rinse cycle of your washing machine. Hand washing in cold water works too!

Do Not Use Hot Water

Do not use hot water when soaking / washing as this compromises the undies’ Leak-Loc™ technology.  Never use harsh detergents, softeners or bleach on your Proof undies.  The chemicals in those agents can also compromise our undies Leak-Loc™ technology.

Proof’s multi-layered technology can take between 12-24 hours to dry. Once your undies have finished hand washing in cold water or completing the spin cycle in a washing machine, hang or lay flat to dry. To dry more quickly, blot any excess moisture and hang dry.

Besides being really (really) leak proof, Proof undies are a sustainable alternative to traditional period and incontinence products. Say goodbye to single-use plastics for your periods and bladder leaks. Proof has you covered.

Traditional single-use period products like tampons, pads, and panty liners create an enormous amount of waste. One woman may produce 100 lbs. of waste from feminine hygiene products each year, and about 11,000 pads in her lifetime (2017, huffington post).  12 billion pads and 7 million tampons are dumped into US landfills each year (national women’s health network), and constitute 7% of the world’s landfills. Even organic or biodegradable pads have hidden plastics and non-biodegradable components that can take up to 800 years to decompose (Potter).

Single-use period waste doesn’t just end up in landfills. Plastic applicators from tampons often make it to the ocean, where they are ingested by wildlife, wash up on sandy shores, or break down to microplastics, posing a serious threat to ocean life (Cole, Edwards). Together, let’s slow the flow of single use plastics into landfills and oceans.

It’s easy! Machine wash your undies in cold water on a delicate cycle. Be sure to use gentle laundry detergents.

Do not use hot water when soaking/washing as this compromises the undies’ Leak-Loc™ technology.  Once washed, either hang or lay flat to dry. Never use harsh detergents, softeners or bleach on your Proof undies. The chemicals in those agents can also compromise our undies Leak-Loc™ technology.

How to keep your undies in tip-top shape:

- Hand rinse in cold water before putting in the washing machine

- Do not twist or ring

- Use a mesh wash bag to prolong the life of your undies

- Never iron, use hot water, harsh detergents, bleach or softeners

- Do not put your Proof undies in the dryer - Always hang or lay flat to dry

- To help sanitize, use a few drops of tea tree oil or vinegar in the rinse cycle of your washing machine

- No washing machine? Hand washing in cold water works too!

This depends on the style and absorbency level of your undies. We recommend you put them through the spin cycle to remove as much water as possible before hanging or lying flat to dry. If there’s still substantial moisture in the gusset, use a towel to blot. It can take 2 hours to 2 days depending on absorbency level. We have found that hanging the undies to dry is quicker than laying them flat.

Our exclusive Leak-Loc™ technology is a patented system that incorporates breathable leakproof materials to prevent leaking and absorbent antimicrobial inner layers to absorb liquid and wick it away to keep you fresh and dry. Our Leak-Loc™ system keep leaks in your undies and off of your clothes.
